[S9E5]: Saving Marcie Maples
The episode opens by showing us what the ‘Wives are up to. Olivia is doing fittings on some test garments. Monsè is in a meeting with Gil and their financial advisor. Marcie is making the bed in her son’s room.
The scene lands on Serena and Yvonne walking into Valentina’s dance studio.
The receptionist lets them in and leads them to a classroom where Valentina is teaching a class.
Valentina: “Ladies! Ladies! Let’s get in formation and run through the routine again, some of you guys are stiff!”
“ I’m actually super excited to be seeing Val in action!! I think sometimes our real life work gets overshadowed by the drama within our circle. I’m so happy to be connected with the bosses of this circle!”
As the music starts playing, Serena does a little dance.
Serena: “Ooouu! Nice song!”
We see Valentina dancing a routine in front of her class and they all follow along. Once it’s done, Serena and Yvonne clap. Valentina turns and notices the ‘Wives in the studio. She smiles and runs over to grab her phone, suddenly Bongos begins playing and she begins dancing.
Valentina: “Serena, get in here with us! I know you love this song like me!”
Serena: “Oh! Let me go dance real quick!”
Yvonne watches as Serena runs over and begins dancing next to Valentina in front of her class.
“Little Miss Trophy Wife invited me to her dance studio and of course the song I hear is the same one these two were dancing on tables to.” She rolls her eyes. “So now I’m starting to wonder if this is the only song she knows or if she was trying to figure out her one two step for this class…”
Valentina: “Okay okay, now we are getting out of hand!!” She giggles. “I’m going to go ahead and dismiss class for today and we will pick up from the top on Wednesday!”
As Valentina’s class is dismissed, Valentina and Serena make their way over to Yvonne.
Valentina: “Yvonne, hello, I didn’t see you come in?”
Yvonne: “Good, that means you were paying attention to your students.” She smiles.
Valentina: “Let’s have a seat, I have some champagne in the break room! Let me grab it real fast.” She begins walking out of the studio.
Serena: “Come on champagne in the dance studio! You can tell you are a housewife at heart.” She chuckles.
“Who just has bottles of champagne in a dance studio? Valentina for sure!” She laughs. “How do I sign up?”
Valentina comes back in with a couple flutes of champagne, her receptionist brings in the third and she sits in the studio with Serena and Yvonne.
Serena: “Ohh! You even got crystal glassware, c’mon, bitch!”
Valentina and Serena laugh and Yvonne raises her eyebrow slightly.
Yvonne: “So — I know you didn’t invite me here just to jaw jab so what’s up?”
Valentina frowns a bit and turns to Yvonne.
“Us girls need to rally behind Marcie. She needs real friends in her corner right now and I think Serena and Yvonne are the closest people to her other than me.”
Valentina: “The real reason why I invited you both here is because we all have a mutual friend I think we all care about, that needs our help.” She looks between Yvonne and Serena.
Yvonne: “It’s Marcie, isn’t it?” She sips her champagne.
Valentina: “Yes, I feel like she could be close to death if we don’t save her!”
Yvonne and Serena both have shocked expressions on their faces.
Serena: “Close to death?!”
Yvonne: “Valentina, don’t exga — “
Valentina: “No, no! Hear me out! I was over at her house the other day ya know just having girl talk and catching up. Next thing I know doors are being slammed and here comes drunk Jon, Marcie’s husband…”
Yvonne: “Okay…”
Valentina: “He was belligerent drunk and was so rude to me and was AWFUL to Marcie. He kept cussing at us and it got a point where Producers had to step in and remove Marcie and I from the situation!”
Serena gasps.
Serena: “Oh my goodness. That’s so scary!” Her eyes are wide.
Yvonne: “Oh my god, that’s so disgusting!” She clutches her chest and looks at Valentina is disbelief.
Valentina: “Now, fast forward a week and she’s back at home and acts like she doesn’t want to talk about it.”
“Look, is Marcie going to die if she stays in this marriage? I don’t know the answer to that. I’m worried about what happens behind closed doors.”
Yvonne: “Do you think he would’ve hurt the two of you if nobody else was there that night?”
Valentina nods her head, adamantly.
Valentina: “I do believe if it was just us and no cameras, yes. He could’ve easily physically attacked us both. He was coming from me just as much as he was Marcie…” She begins to tear up. “I’m really SCARED of him.”
Yvonne: “Don’t cry, oh my goodness.” She scoots over to give Valentina a side hug.
Valentina: “In that moment I was genuinely afraid for my life.” She shakes a little and wipes a tear.
Serena: “Awww…” She frowns and holds Val’s hand. “I’m sorry you went through that. Nobody ever deserves that!”
“Hearing about this incident with Marcie and Jon scares me. I was in an abusive relationship years ago and it truly scarred me. I can only imagine what Marcie is feeling.”
Yvonne: “Does Brandon know about all of this?” She furrows her brow and rubs Valentina’s back.
Valentina: “ I came home and told Brandon about it. He was upset.”
Valentina: “ He tried to call Jon but there was never a call back. I don’t know what to do, but our friend needs our help and I need you guys to help me help her. Maybe a day by the pool at mine?”
Serena: “Wow. Maybe we should try to get ahold of her. Defiantly meet up with her to see how she’s doing.”
Yvonne: “I have a suggestion.” She nods. “I’ll host a little Girl Dinner and invite Marcie as well as the two of you where we can lightly address the topic in a safe environment and focus on letting her know that she’s supported, we are her friends, and that we will walk through this with her.”
Serena: “I love that!”
Valentina: “I’m game for that. Good suggestion, Yvonne. A dinner is a much better setting to talk rather than the pool!”
Yvonne: “Yes, we don’t want you splashing anyone anymore.”
Valentina: “I think those days are behind me.” She nudges Serena. “Now we dance to Bongos together!”
Yvonne: “If you turn on that song again, I might cut my ears off- eyes too.”
Serena laughs and hugs Yvonne and Valentina.
Serena: “I love you ladies!”
“Look I never would have thought that I would be going to Yvonne of all people for help and advice but behind that wig and lashes, she’s got some wisdom in there and it’s actually somewhat good advice.”
Valentina: “I am glad you ladies stopped by and we all can agree that our friend Marcie needs our help and we can all come together for the greater good!”
Yvonne: “Well, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ll send you ladies the details tomorrow when I get things figured out.” She nods and begins getting up.
Serena: “Yes! But can we go get some food? Its On me today. That champagne has a lady starving…” She chuckles and walks out with Yvonne.
Yvonne: “Maybe if you stopped starving yourself into these thigh highs and tights, Serena…”
“Seeing us all come together for our friend is so amazing. Even Val and Yvonne squashed their issues for the bigger purpose. Thank you Lord.”
The scene fades.
The scene begins with shots of Miami, Florida.
It focuses on a hot, upscale, rooftop restaurant in the heart of South Beach.
The camera pans to Violette and Jean-Luc as they walk in together, holding hands.
They are led to their table.
Violette: “Thank you! This is gorgeous.” She smiles at the hostess.
Hostess: “You’re welcome. Your server will be with you shortly!” She smiles and walks off.
We get a shot of Jean-Luc readjusting in his seat as he types away on his phone and Violette crossing her legs.
“I’ve flown out to Miami for the weekend to spend some time with Jean-Luc. It’s the only time he’s free and instead of him just flying home to Beverly Beach, I thought I’d surprise him and come down to Miami for the weekend. He’s always working, this is the only time I can get alone with him!”
Jean-Luc: “You look pretty, ma chérie.” He smiles and puts his phone in his pocket.
Violette: “Thank you.” She smiles slightly.
Violette: “ So, uh, when are you done with the next phase of these projects? I feel like you’ve been on the road and traveling for months now. You’ve been to Dubai, to Shanghai, Italy, New York… you’re gone for weeks, even months at a time. Surely… you’re almost done?”
Jean-Luc lets out a sigh.
Jean-Luc: “Honey, you ask me this all the time. I don’t know. I’ve quite literally created this world domineering AI Software that companies are begging me, paying me… US, millions of dollars for. I’m very hands on.” He shrugs then leans in. “ I’m going to these companies and to all of these places to show the businesses how to use the software and how to tailor make it for them. You need to understand.” He nods.
Violette shakes her head and briefly the argument stops a staff member brings over sparkling water and pours them two glasses. They both take a long sip before continuing.
Violette: “Jean-Luc, It’s not that I don’t understand. It’s that… I’m lonely.” She looks at him, upset. “Do you know how embarrassing it is to go to group functions and not have my fiancé with me? It’s like I’m a single goddamn woman.”
Jean-Luc: “Well I’m sorry for that! I — “
The server comes over to the table and Jean-Luc and Violette quickly regain their composure to order.
Server: “Hi, my name is Xiomara and I’ll be taking care of you two tonight. What can I get going for you both?”
Jean-Luc: “I’ll have a whiskey, neat and she’ll have a filthy martini, stirred. Make sure it’s FILTHY, or I’ll never hear the end of it.” He chuckles.
Violette: “Oh, stop! I’m not that bad!” She winks and laughs. “Also, let’s do the Bruschetta and Burrata Flatbread Pizza and let’s also do an order of the Seared Scallops with Pomegranate and Meyer Lemon.” She smiles. “We’re foodies!”
Server: “Perfect! I’ll have that right out for you.”
The server would walk away and moments later return with their drinks and walk away again. There would be a long moment of silence as background chatter is heard and Violette would sip her drink as Jean-Luc would be texting on his phone.
Violette: “ Babe… all I’m saying is… I just want you home more. I feel ignored, I feel neglected, I feel forgotten about.”
“It’s completely annoying that my fiancé is absolutely disregarding my feelings. I feel as if whenever we have conversations, they go haywire and sideways because he is unable to have an adult conversation without gaslighting me. He’s such an asshole.” The camera lingers on her.
Jean-Luc sighs and rolls his eyes.
Jean-Luc: “Back to this, eh? Look, V. There’s nothing I can do. I can’t just not travel for work. This is my company. I’ve built this from nothing. I work my ass off and it’s paid off. I’m not letting off the gas now.”
Violette: “Okay? I’ve worked my ass off too.” She motions to herself, pissed off. “But guess what? I’m still HERE! I have a successful career and I don’t have to travel to have it.”
Jean-Luc: “Congratulations! You want a cookie?”
Violette scoffs and shakes her head in disbelief.
Violette: “Woooow. You’re being a dick. What is the matter with you?”
Jean-Luc: “I’m frustrated because you are making it seem like I’m not a good man to you. You’re speaking about this fucking shit on camera and you’re allowing it to be narrated that I’m this awful person who works 24/7 and I don’t tend to you. News flash!” He looks directly into the camera. “She works just as much! She’s never home either. Her career matters to her as well!”
We see Violette look shocked. We get shots of nearby tables looking over. Violette hangs her head in embarrassment as Jean-Luc looks back to her.
Jean-Luc: “You aren’t really the idea of what I had in mind for a soon to be wife.”
Violette would gasp and remain quiet for a moment as the server would drop off their food and walk away.
Violette: “That was really harsh. I am sorry that I am a modern woman who works and doesn’t want to be a stay at home wife and be supported by my ‘husband’. You keep trying to put me in this fucking box of this perfect little wife. I’m not that! Get over it! You want me to just sit at home, carry all your children and have no dreams or goals or aspirations.”
Jean-Luc: “That’s not true! You are — “
The two would begin talking over eachother.
Violette: “It is true! You don’t hear me! You don’t make me feel heard — “
Jean-Luc: “Screw this! I am out of here.”
Jean-Luc would get up and walk past the production crew as the cameras break the fourth wall and showcase the crew members following him into the restaurant, he’d take off his mic and toss it onto the ground.
Jean-Luc: “Nope. I’m done guys. I’m not allowing a false narrative to be painted of me. We’re done here. Goodbye. Please stop filming me!”
The scene would transition back to the roof where Violette would shake her head in disgust and sigh.
“Jean-Luc storming out of the restaurant is nothing I am not used to. Whenever we get into a fight, he gets mad and disengages and storms off. We’re never able to have a productive conversation because he can’t sit in the room long enough for us to do it. He’s a child. I really don’t know how we are going to plan a future together, much less a wedding if we can’t get on the same page.”
We see patrons of the restaurant whispering and looking over at Violette sitting alone.
Violette: “We didn’t even get to eat.” She laughs and mumbles. “SO dramatic…”
The scene ends.
The scene begins as the camera pans over Yvonne’s house. Outside in her backyard, she is seen prepping the outdoor table for a dinner.
“Today, I’ve invited some of the ladies to my home for a girl dinner near the pool. Considering we’re here to sort of confront Marcie about her marriage, I hope this isn’t a bad idea and nobody ends up underwater. But if they do, I have a lifeguard on standby.”
The camera pans to show the lifeguard Yvonne hired, sitting out by her pool on his phone.
Serena walks around the back to the pool area.
Serena: “Yvonne!!! Hello darling!”
Yvonne: “Oh, good you’re here! Glammed as usual.” She hugs her. “Was my door just open or did Horace let you in?” She raises an eyebrow.
Serena: “Your fine husband let me in!” She hugs Yvonne again. “Oh! You just look so pretty!”
Olivia is seen getting out of a car in the courtyard of Yvonne’s house.
“Yvonne invited some of us ladies over to her home. The text message mentioned she wanted to provide a safe space to Marcie to discuss her marital issues. I didn’t tell Yvonne I already told Marcie that Yvonne told me, but Yvonne is ripping the band-aid off tonight. I struggled in my previous marriage, so I feel for Marcie and won’t be harsh tonight.”
Olivia knocks on the door.
Olivia: “Hello? Yvonne?” She knocks again after a few moments. “Yvonne Langley?”
Outback, Yvonne hears the knocks and yells at Horace.
Yvonne: “Come on in! Horace, get the door would you?”
The camera pans to Horace in the sitting room, playing Candy Crush on his iPad.
Horace: “Sorry, honey. I got it, I got it.” He gets up and goes to open the door.
“I probably should’ve hired a greeter who wanted to make a nice $100 tonight. Horace is too busy playing with the iPad that he isn’t doing his job!”
Horace opens the door to Olivia, and we now see that Valentina has arrived as well.
Horace leads the two ‘Wives to the back patio where Yvonne and Serena are.
Yvonne: “Olivia, Val, come in ladies! You both look so good!”
Valentina and Olivia greet the other two.
Valentina: “Marcie isn’t here yet, right?” She looks around.
“I am super nervous about how tonight is going to go with Marcie. I just really want her to know that all of these ladies here are coming from a good place and have genuine concern for her wellbeing. I just hope Marcie can see through that.”
The music changes as we see Marcie getting out of her car service in the front. She walks up and knocks on Yvonne’s door.
“As I’m pulling into Yvonne’s driveway all I can think about is how we’re about to have the BEST BACHELORETTE PARTY EVAAAAA!” She smiles. “Because why we’re all here!.. Right?”
Marcie walks out onto the back patio with a bottle of tequila in hand.
Marcie: “Hey hey heyy! Horace let me in which I thought was a little strange for a bachelorette party but..” She looks around, confused. “Where’s all the people?”
Valentina: “Oh shit, hey Marcie!! It’s just us girl, come have a seat!” She motions to the seat next to her.
Olivia: “The gang is all here!”
Yvonne: “I told you I was having girl dinner, this isn’t a party silly!”
Marcie: “Oh, I thought it was like a hush hush code!” She chuckles a bit.
“I’m 55 years old, did she really think there was going to be naked men, dollar bills, and hot wings? Come on Marcie…”
Yvonne: “Come in, let’s all sit down. I have an extravagant meal for us.” She grins.
Valentina, Serena, Olivia, Yvonne, and Marcie all take a seat at the table.
Olivia: “How are you, darling?” She looks to Marcie.
Marcie: “I’m well Olivia!”
Olivia: “You look great tonight, babe.” She smiles kindly. “Really!”
Marcie raises and eyebrow.
Yvonne: “Well the reason why we are all here is because I wanted to connect with you ladies before Catalina.” She looks around the table.
Marcie: “Oh fun! What’s the plan?”
Serena and Valentina both look at Marcie.
“Something’s.. like off.”
Yvonne lets out a sigh and looks to Marcie.
Yvonne: “Marcie, I’ll be honest. I wanted this dinner to feel like a sisterhood but not for me, the bride to be, for you…”
Serena nods along to Yvonne.
Marcie: “Oh, awh, thank you!”
Some of the women look at Marcie, confused at her being so oblivious.
Serena: “We’re just concerned about you. Val told us about what was going on with you.”
“I truly hope that Marcie sees this as an effort by her friends to help her any way possible. Ya know? Hopefully. Right?”
Yvonne: “I think we have all noticed a change in you and witnessed you break down about your marriage over the past few months.” She nods at Marcie.
The camera pans to Marcie who grabs a blanket from an empty chair and covers herself.
Marcie: “Gosh it’s a bit chilly, Yvonne.” She chuckles. “Uhm.. got any heaters?”
Serena and Valentina look at eachother, wide eyed. Yvonne is at a loss for words. The camera pans to Olivia who looks astonished.
Olivia: “Did you hear them?” She looks to Marcie.
Yvonne: “It’s 73 degrees, Marcie.” She checks her phone.
Marcie: “Look, Val, I don’t know that they’re talking about…” She laughs a bit. “What? Told you what?”
Serena looks at Marcie, confused.
Valentina: “Marcie…” She looks sad. “I told these girls about what Jon did to you and I that day at your house when we were catching up…”
Olivia: “Marcie, let’s be honest please, babe.”
The camera pans to Marcie who bites her lip and shakes a little.
Marcie: “Ohhhh. Okay.”
“I’m.. sick. I’m sick right now. I wanna scream. I want to cry. I want to.. I don’t even know, but I know I’m about to fight.”
We see some tears of frustration begin to form in Marcie’s eyes. She looks back to Valentina, clearly pissed, but tries to hide it.
Marcie: “Valentina I don’t know why you wouldn’t keep that between us at all. That’s not cool.” She shakes her head and scoffs before looking around the table. “Ladies obviously there’s been a misunderstanding but I.. am fine. I’m fineee!” She sings. “FINEEE! I’m so okay.” Tears stream down her face and she tries to hide a sniffle.
Valentina: “Look, I only told Serena and Yvonne what happened. They are you friends and I knew they would come from a good place.”
Serena: “She was concerned about you.”
Yvonne: “Exactly. She also felt unsafe, Marcie.” She motions to Valentina. “We should all be happy that Brandon and Jon didn’t end up in a tussle.”
Olivia begins rubbing Marcie’s arm and looking at her sympathetically.
Olivia: “We all want the best for you. I didn’t hear about that incident but you know I want what’s best for you.”
Marcie looks around at all of them talking and holds her hands up, clearly very uncomfortable.
Marcie: “OKAY I AM LIKE TOTALLY OK!”
Valentina all of a sudden begins crying.
Valentina: “IM WORRIED FOR MY FRIEND, MARCIE! CANT YOU SEE YOU ARE NOT OKAY!!!”
Olivia: “Val, please — “ She rolls her eyes a bit.
Yvonne: “She said that she felt if she wasn’t around and the crew didn’t intervene, he would have hurt the both of you!” She motions to Valentina. “She really is just concerned because she saw it first hand. We ALL are concerned!”
Marcie snaps her head in Valentina’s direction, irate.
Marcie: “VALENTINA WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT?! You and your FAT lips always getting me into shit!”
Serena: “Oh no!” She gasps.
Olivia: “Oh girls, this is not how this should be going.”
Marcie: “Listen, everyone I am OK!”
Valentina: “YOU ARE NOT OKAY! I am not okay!” She holds her wrist up. “MARCIE, WAKE UP! JON LEFT BRUISES ON ME!” She shows the ladies her arm. “This is where Jon grabbed me, and man handled me.”
Olivia: “Oh my God.” She covers her mouth. “My God.”
Marcie: “HE DIDNT TOUCH YOU! DONT SAY THESE THINGS!” She screeches.
Olivia screams in fright and Serena’s eyes widen.
Olivia: “Marcie please calm down. Everyone calm down. Please.”
Yvonne: “Are you saying she’s lying, Marcie?”
Marcie: “YES.. WELL NO! WELL YES! BUT NO!”
The rest of the ‘Wives look at Marcie very confused.
“Look, I expected her to be a little defensive but she’s like breaking out in hives and veins are popping! I can’t tell if this is a battered wife or a passionate attorney.”
Valentina: “Marcie this YOUR LIFE, and it was our life that was in danger that day. Look I don’t want to exploit you but you have to come to terms with things.”
Marcie: “STOP IT, VALENTINA!”
Yvonne: “Let’s take a beat. I do actually have dinner prepared. We can have an adult conversation and not waste my money!” She holds her hands up.
Serena: “Okay — yeah. This is getting ridiculous. Maybe we just need to let it go…”
The table goes completly silent. Yvonne snaps for the chef to bring out the food. The chef places plates infront of all of the women.
Yvonne: “Ooo yum!”
The table is silent but all of a sudden we can hear the sound of sniffling. Valentina is crying at the table. We get a shot of Marcie glaring at her, annoyed.
Serena: “Okay. Let’s calm down, baby.” She whispers and rubs Valentina’ back.
Valentina looks up to see Marcie glaring.
Valentina: “Oh, don’t be mad at me just because I’m trying to help you! Marcie you have got to fix this, I wanted these girls to help you and we all want to HELP YOU but you are in denial about your reality.”
Marcie: “What am I denying?!”
Serena: “Oh my God, here we go again!” She throws her silverware down in frustration.
Marcie: “Spit it out already you seem to have SO MUCH TO SAY!” She jabs her finger at Valentina.
Valentina: “That your husband likes to get drunk and beat the shit out of you!”
Yvonne: “Valentina, absolutly not!” She gasps.
Valentina: “THERE! I said it! Now are you happy?” She narrows her eyes at Marcie.
Serena: “Hush!” She tries to cover Valentina’s mouth.
Marcie: “WAIT what?!” Her mouth hangs open.
Valentina: “You heard me, Marcie.”
Olivia: “Valentina, please stop.” She rubs Marcie’s arm. “Marcie…it’s okay. We will help you.”
“I love Jonathon.. but I can’t deny the realities of my life.. I’m in love with a domestic abuser. I know that’s not what people want to hear but every time I’ve tried to leave it’s gotten worse.” She begins to cry.
Marcie: “I can’t believe this…” She gets up from the table. “I’m going to be sick. How DARE you say that, Valentina!” She glares at her. “My SON is going to watch this! MY SON!” She shrieks in pain.
The table remains silent. The camera pans to Valentina just shaking her head before responding.
Valentina: “I can’t believe you put me in this place, Marcie….”
Marcie: “NO! YOU ARE NOT THE VICTIM, VALENTINA!”
Olivia: “Stop this right now, Yvonne Langley.” She looks to Yvonne.
Valentina: “My kids had to see their mother come home in BRUISES at the expense of your husband and you are going to sit up here and act like everything is honky dory, ITS NOT!!!”
Serena: “Stop this! This is still your friend!” She pulls at Valentina.
Valentina: “She is my friend, Serena but she can’t act this way… we are here trying to support her!”
Marcie: “I — “ She stutters, “VALENTINA!” She gasps for air. “I CAN’T DO THIS!”
Marcie is now sobbing and digging for a tissue in her purse. Olivia gets up and rushes to Marcie’s side.
Olivia: “Oh Marcie, please…please come with me to the bathroom.” She hugs Marcie. “It’s okay, I got you. I’m so sorry this happened this way.”
Yvonne: “I think Marcie, you and Olivia should go inside and you calm down away from Valentina who’s clearly upset.” She points to her door.
We see Marcie sobbing on Olivia’s shoulder as they head inside of Yvonne’s house. Cameras follow Olivia and Marcie inside to Yvonnes bathroom before Olivia shuts the door.
Olivia: “Give us a minute!”
We begin to hear muffled mic audio from Olivia and Marcie.
Marcie: “I hate him so much but I can’t leave.”
Olivia: “You can and you will. We got you, anything you need we will support you. I will support you.” She is heard sniffling.
Marcie: “Bu — But Mikey! He — He’ll die if we divorce!” She tries to catch her breath.
Olivia: “No, he will be okay. Mikey loves you! Our children see what we go through. He knows what that man has put you through, trust me. I went through a bad divorce too — my sons loved me and supported me the whole way.”
Marcie: “But he loves his father too!” She sobs. “I didn’t know this would come out! I’m going to be ruined!”
Olivia: “Well it’s about to be on television, Marcie, so you need to have a tough conversation with Mikey before he finds out on this platform or in the blogs or magazines.”
The scene switches. Serena, Yvonne, and Valentina remain at the dinner table.
Yvonne: “Valentina — why would you say that?”
Valentina: “I said everything because it’s true, Yvonne. I didn’t mean for it to come out the way it did, but I couldn’t sit here another minute and hear how perfect her life is, when she sat there and seen how he handled me that day.”
Serena: “Your message was diminished by your deliver, baby girl.” She sighs and gets up. “I’m going to check on Marcie.”
As Serena walks to go inside, Yvonne looks to Valentina.
Yvonne: “Valentina, you know the sensitive nature of this issue. Putting that out there like that knowing the platform we have was irresponsible. I think everyone’s on 100 right now and we aren’t being responsible with our words and actions.” She shrugs.
Valentina: “I was just hoping we could all rally behind her if we had the full story. So everyone could understand the severity of it.”
Yvonne: “I get that but ’m not sure how helpful it was to Marcie to hear you say, in this forum, that her husband beats the shit out of her.” She sighs. “But as a woman I will definitly not diminish your side either. You don’t deserve to suffer seeing a friend throw her life away and you certainly don’t deserve to have a man put his hands on you- for that, I’m sorry.”
Valentina: “Thank you Yvonne, I am glad someone can somewhat see my viewpoint. That’s all I was trying to get across to her tonight. I hope maybe when the dust settles she will be open to having a conversation with me.” She bites her lip.
Yvonne: “Anyways, eat your lobster. A little substance may do you good in this moment.”
Valentina takes a bite and nods.
Valentina: “This is some damn good lobster though, I wonder if they would be mad if I ate some from their plate!”
Yvonne: “Well I paid for it all, it can’t go to waste! Marcie doesn’t need any seafood, she’s too emotional. It may slip out her mouth while she cries. Take hers home.” She laughs.
The scene fades.
The scene opens. Marcie’s shown swimming in her pool before she gets out, puts on a coverup and walks inside to her wine fridge to get a bottle of sangria.
“Today Mikey’s coming home from college for the weekend. After everything coming to light, Olivia was right. He needs to hear this from his parents’ mouths first, not the press or the show. I don’t know where Jon is because we’re both supposed to be telling Mike about our issues as of late, and where they might lead us. But if Jon is going to choose to be absent for this as well then that’s his choice.”
Marcie’s shown walking back outside to her covered patio and pouring herself a glass and turning on the tv as the camera pans to the indoor garage door where Mike is shown walking in.
Mike opens the door and jumps seeing the cameras and crew.
Mike: “Oh shit!” He laughs. “You guys scared me! Is she filming?”
Producer: “Yeah she’s out back.”
Mike: “Cool thanks.” He drops his bag on the floor and the cameras follow him as he walks out back. “Hey ma! You didn’t tell me the camera people were going to be here today.”
Marcie: “Oh my gosh, Mikey!!!” She jumps up and and hugs him. “How are you my baby!?” She kisses his cheek.
Marcie and Mikey sit on the patio furniture. Marcie turns off the tv and focuses on her soon.
Marcie: “Do you want food? Something to drink you must be starving from all the driving!”
Mike: “No, I’m okay! Where’s dad.”
Marcie: “I actually…don’t know.” She sighs. “Mike, there’s uh, something I should tell you about your father and I…”
Mike looks confused.
Mike: “Are you guys having a baby? Aren’t you too old for that?”
Marcie: “No, no. Oh God, no.” She chuckles. “Nothing like that. Uh, it’s a bit more serious.”
Mike: “What do you mean ma? Where’s dad? This is weird…” He raises and eyebrow. “Did he….die?” He begins to look worried.
Marcie: “OH GOD NO BABY no! He’s fine! I’m sure he’s on his way home now!”
“Coming out and just saying this to Mike is a lot harder than it seems. I should just be able to tell him; ‘Hey we’re having problems and we’re in therapy.’ but the anxiety is eating me alive thinking about his reaction.”
Mike: “Mom, what’s going on?”
Marcie: “Oh, Jesus, Mikey…” She takes a deep breath. “Your dad and I are having problems ok. We’re just having issues — “
Mike: “What do you mean, issues?” He starts to panic a bit. “You guys can’t get divorced, right?”
Marcie: “Mike.. I.. Jesus would you calm down. Nobody said anything about divorce, just we’re doing some therapy to try and make our relationship stronger and healthier for both of us.”
Mike: “So then where is dad right now?”
Marcie: “I.. I don’t know Mike honestly. I’m just trying to take things day by day right now and that’s all I’m thinking about.”
Mike: “So when you guys do talk and get better everything is going to go completely back to normal right?”
Marcie: “Well no, Mike. There needs to be some serious changes made to how me and your dad are living. Not where just things may be different in a better way next time you come home.”
Mike: “What if I want them to stay the same?”
Marcie clenches her jaw.
Marcie: “Mike you’re grown and out of the house you don’t get that say. Me and your father have to be happy individually because if we’re not. Then we won’t ever be happy together.”
“Mike needs to realize that 1. He’s grown and 2. Nothing stays the same forever. That’s why things are ever changing. If me and Jon are ever going to make it some serious changes here need to be made, and I cannot do them alone.”
Marcie: “So let’s just go for a swim.. and see if dad comes home soon.”
Mike: “Well…alright.” He looks at his mother skeptically.
As Mike goes inside to change, Marcie is seen diving into the pool. The scene fades.
